FOCUS ON:
Faith Based Communities

The 2001 census reveals that over 75% of the UK population have a faith affiliation and over 70% are Christian. More recent research indicates that 14% attend church at least once a month, 29% at least once a year and 66% of adults agree "British Society should retain its Christian culture".  Despite this, the UK is perceived as a largely secular society, possibly because many faith groups are poor at active civic engagement, tending to be quite introverted, especially Christian groups.

Although the average membership of faith groups are poor at civic engagement, many charities are faith based (e.g. The Salvation Army, YMCA, Children’s Society, Christian Aid), and are considered to be amongst the largest overall providers of community services, especially if you include those with Christian foundations.  However, whilst individual faith group members may not be perceived as directly or formally involved in ‘social service’, many are active in ‘doing good’, much with great effect.  The challenge is, how can this ‘good work’ be made more effective in the light of a growing need, without adding extra burden?  The answer is by being ‘smarter’ and more intentional about what really makes a difference.

The LifeWhys framework is designed to work with everyone; it is also easy and highly effective at producing positive outcomes.  It is also fully compatible with the majority of faith expressions – which are primarily about hope and fullness of life through positive, nurturing and enduring relationships.
